French cinematographer, Pierre Lhomme has photographed films for many of the most important filmmakers in the last fifty years including Marguerite Duras, Jean Eustache, Jean-Pierre Melville and Robert Bresson. In his video interview, Lhomme discusses his work on Army of Shadows, a 1969 film directed by Jean-Pierre Melville.
Army of Shadows [L'armée des ombres] adapted from Joseph Kessel's 1943 novel, a semi-fictionalized story of Kessel's experience during the French Resistance. Army of Shadows follows a small group of Resistance fighters as they move between safe houses, work with the Allied militaries, kill informers, and attempt to evade the capture and execution that they know is their most likely fate.
